Religious Liberty

Since the Health and Human Services (HHS) Mandate was announced there has been much discussion concerning the breach of the First Amendment. For official Catholic statements on this topic, please go to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops website.
Read Bishops' bulletin insert "The Most Cherished of American Freedoms."
Read Bishops' Statement "Our First, Most Cherished Liberty: A Statement on Religious Liberty by the Ad Hoc Committee on Religious Liberty" April 12, 2012.

Read Archbishop Henry J. Mansell’s statement "Federal Edict on Health Care Insurance."

Despite the rhetoric that the Obama administration has made “accomodations” to the Health and Human Services Mandate, essentially all health insurance plans must still include contraception, sterilizations and abortion-inducing drugs. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) has firmly stated that the “accommodation” remains unacceptable.
The most important issue remains: NEVER has the federal government ever infringed so boldly on the religious liberty of citizens of the United States. This is a very dangerous and threatening precedent to ALL citizens of this great country which was founded on this very principle of Religious Liberty. Every one of us needs to speak out against this mandate so that our elected officials are aware of our opposition. Please call your Senators and Congressmen/women and express your opinion.
