Respect Life Mass

The Annual Archdiocesan Respect Life Mass was celebrated by Archbishop Leonard P. Blair at the Cathedral of St. Joseph at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, October 9, 2016. A large crowd was in attendance including many parish pro-life representatives from churches in the Archdiocese. Under the direction of Dr. Ezequiel Menendez, Director of Music, the Cathedral was filled with organ music and
song.

In his homily, Archbishop Blair frequently referred to the Gospel of Life. He commented that today this most meaningful document is often not accepted even among Catholics, since the culture emphasizes, and often successfully, the absence of absolutes, bending instead to personal choice and one’s own moral code.

On the positive side for our Church, Archbishop Blair stated, “Our Church is far from bleak …It is both the best of times and the worst of times: the best because there are so many defending life in their steadfast belief that all human life is precious; it is the worst of times since the attacks to life are coming from so many fronts.”

In alluding to the lepers in Sunday’s gospel, the Archbishop likened the grateful leper to those who stand up for life, “Stand up and go; your faith has saved you.” He concluded by saying, “It is always the right time to proclaim the Gospel of Life. Proclaim it with faith, love and joy.”
