Annual Archdiocesan Mass of Remembrance

Mass of Remembrance

The annual Archdiocesan Mass of Remembrance for children who have died was celebrated at Our Lady of Fatima Church in Yalesville on April 25, 2017. The principal celebrant was Reverend Robert Rousseau, Director of the Pro-Life Ministry for the Archdiocese of Hartford. Reverend Robert Landback concelebrated.

Anyone who wished was invited to enter the name of a child who died in the Mass of Remembrance book which was returned to the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Hartford where it is kept until next year’s Mass. During Mass, Sister Suzanne Gross, FSE, read the names of the children from the book.

In his homily, Father Rousseau emphasized that the Apostles were sent out to proclaim love and forgiveness and the victory of life over death. Each person will experience death but it is a death to this life, a change; life will be changed, not ended.

He continued: in the midst of difficulties and trials, we must remember, “God has a plan.” We might have a different one, but God is in charge and knows better than we do. And, God wants us to be forgiven; that is why he died on the cross. Father Rousseau ended by saying, “Let us be islands of mercy in the sea of life.”

Following Mass, light refreshments were served in the church hall.
