Mass of Remembrance held at St. Thomas the Apostle Church
April 30, 2018

On April 24th, the Archdiocese of Hartford celebrated its annual Mass of Remembrance at St. Thomas the Apostle Parish in West Hartford. The Mass is a time for reflection on the lives of our children who have died from any cause. Many have died suddenly; some have died after illnesses and miscarriage. The causes are numerous but the resulting emotions of pain, longing, and sorry are the same.

Fr. Rousseau celebrated the Mass and there was a strong showing of parents, grandparents, and youth. Those who have suffered the loss of a child in the past year were invited to write the names of their children in the Book of Remembrance. The Book is retained in the Cathedral of St. Joseph throughout the year and is then brought to the parish that is hosting this special Mass. The Knights of Columbus from the West Hartford region provided an honor guard for the Mass celebrant and also during the offertory as gifts and the Book of Remembrance were presented. A reception followed in the parish hall which was decorated with beautiful spring flowers speaking to the joy and hope offered through the Resurrection of Christ.
